Hydra Arc help raise awareness on World AIDS Day
This year marked the 28th year of the World AIDS Day, held every year on 1 December. The project was started to generate consciousness and compassion among people who have tested positive for HIV and to unite in the fight against HIV.
The Hydra Arc group had a company-wide campaign on World AIDS Day, handing out ribbon keyrings at head office, Jomele, Mshiniwami, Sasol Secunda site, Chevron Cape Town site and the Sky Hill Fabrication Facility, to help raise awareness around HIV.
At the Mshiniwami Training Academy learners and staff wore white t-shirts in support of the cause. Nurses Beulah Jele and Sibongile Khoza from the Wellness Clinic at Evander Hospital kindly offered their time to give a presentation on HIV to learners, and handed out literature on the subject. They also tested 50 volunteer learners and staff.
World AIDS Day is important because it reminds everyone that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education.
